KIDS SURFING AND FAMILY FRIDAYS
In conjunction with Friday nights being our usual members nights during the summer nights, we hold learn-to-surf sessions for kids 8-18 years old. This hugely popular night has encouraged many kids to learn to surf, some who later become part of our increasing grom squad.

70’s RETRO FRIDAY
A moveable feast set for a Friday evening in Summer when the weather and conditions conspire to give us the right conditions. Competitors must provide and ride a 1970’s single fin surfboard in a 40-minute “expression session” marked by two judges.

WOMAD
In conjunction with TAFT, we provide a welcome for the WOMAD performers on their arrival in New Plymouth with a barbeque, music and an impromptu jam session.

WINTER/MID-YEAR FUNCTION
During the winter months, the Committee organises a party at the Club which entails a great band or DJ and food.

ANNUAL CRICKET OR BOWLS MATCH WITH OAKURA BOARDRIDERS CLUB
Always hotly contested, the opportunity to be selected for our team brings out the best in former and budding cricketers or bowlers as we try to break Oakura’s grip on the shield.

ASSOCIATED GROUPS
When requested, we provide facilities to organisations such as the Stratford Mountain Club, Blue Flag Committee, and Surfbreak Protection Society for their AGMs or member’s functions. 

MUSIC APPRECIATION 
The Club has a reputation for attracting some of New Plymouth’s best musicians by hosting an Open Mic Night on the first Friday of every month which have become extremely popular.

WAHINE WEDNESDAYS
Launched by the club during the summer of 2023/20243, Wāhine Wednesdays encourages women to get in the water and give surfing a try.

Many female club members are the surf support crew for their families and don’t have the confidence or haven’t had the opportunity to try surfing. The free to attend weekly sessions are relaxed and open to both members and non-members, with members being provided gear. The evening concludes with shared nibbles and drinks on the deck.
