70’s RETRO FRIDAY
A moveable feast set for a Friday evening in Summer when the weather and conditions conspire to give us the right conditions. Competitors must provide and ride a 1970’s single fin surfboard in a 40-minute “expressionsession” marked by two judges.

WOMAD
With TAFT we provide a welcome for the WOMAD performers on their arrival in New Plymouth with a barbeque, music and an impromptu jam session.

QUIZ NIGHTS
Inaugurated in 2010 this family event proved very popular with further quiz nights planned for both the summer and winter nights.

WINTER FUNCTION
During the winter months, a winter dinner is provided with a bus trip to such places as Okato (where we are joined by our Coastal friends), Mike’s Ales or a fancy dress dinner at the club.

ANNUAL CRICKET MATCH WITH OAKURA
Always hotly contested the opportunity to be selected for our team brings out the best in former and budding cricketers as we try to break Oakura’s grip on the shield.

SURFING MUMS
As many of our female members have small children and find it difficult to get back into surfing, member Kate Giles organised a Tuesday morning crèche for surfing Mums, being club members or not, based in the club rooms.

SURFBREAK PROTECTION SOCIETY
When requested we provide facilities to Surf break protection for their AGM (2008 and 2009) plus committee meetings regularly.

BLUE FLAG COMMITTEE
Annually provide facilities for one of the two meetings this NPDC-managed committee to meet.

ASSOCIATED GROUPS
Organisations such as the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter Trust, Canteen and TSB Community Trust are hosted on a normal Friday evening opening to join us for the annual Christmas function.

MUSIC APPRECIATION
The club has a reputation for attracting some of New Zealand’s best musicians such as Midge Marsden, Brilleaux and Common ground as well as top local artists who enjoy playing in the club environment.
